Slideshare.net

My slideshare account is: http://www.slideshare.net/pbirch

http://www.slideshare.net/sirexkat/what-is-library-20
For me, this is a wonderful PowerPoint.....Library 2.0

I'm fascinated by Slideshare. I did post a PowerPoint that I had made on PowerMedia Plus for a presentation. I get it that I can now access it through this tool, and don't need to be on the server where it was created....or carry a flash drive with me. I searched some other postings, and found a great one on choices we make about what we eat, how we live, etc. Located at:

The slideshow I uploaded is located at http://www.slideshare.net/pbirch/inservice-dec-2006-pp-presentation/

This is overwhelming to think all this is available with a click....amazing.

delicious.

delicious.com is another "thing" I've been meaning to look at, and never took time to explore.
I think it is pretty interesting, and definately a way to organize your favorites on the web.

In January I'll start teaching my collection management class, so I did a search on
the subject, and found four others who had "marked" some sites. I can see how this could be really useful. Plus, I get so many sites listed under Favorites, that I am going to try to organize the ones I have listed at this time. Good time to try it so I don't have too many marked on this computer at this time.

I looked at all the different tags people put on NebraskAccess. Certainly different tags were used than ones I would use, but that is to say, I need to broaden my scope and realize how others would tag a site.

It would be pretty cool to be able to access your bookmarks from any computer. That looks like another HUGE reason to try delicious.com. Here I go....I'm ready to give it a whirl.

twitter

The best thing about the "23 Things" is that it makes me look at all these different social networking programs I hear about all of the time.
I created my twitter account, but I can't imagine anyone wants to know what I'm doing most of the time. I did, however, read Dawn's blog about her twitter activities. Good job, Dawn.
And I looked at the NLC reference questions on twitter. My question with the reference
desk twitter postings is if the answers are available? Very interesting to see what people
are asking.

Loving LibraryThing

I've heard about this LibraryThing for a year or more, and just never took time to check it out. My loss. I think I might really like this for my own use. I've had these piles of books in the my office for the longest time. I don' t ever seem to get to them, but I didn't want to move them, in case I would forget abou them. So....I just added them on my LibraryThing account, and now I know where I can find a list of them if I ever get time to give them a look!

Technology Post

Technology tools will become a part of everything we do: at work and at home. In order to keep up, it is imperative to, at least be aware of new technology tools. Technology tools are all around us. Even if you don't use social networking tools, I think it is important to expose yourself to them. To communicate with people in their 20's, they prefer Skype, IM, etc., and not email.

To teach to teens, you have to intetrate technology into the curriculum, to keep them engaged and interested in learning. Anymore, students almost expect to have these pieces included in their learning environment. In order to work with the Standards For The 21st-Century Learner from the American Assocation of School Librarians (AASL), media specialists not only rely on resources, but also technology tools in order to meet the needs of students today.

Essentially, technology is everywhere, and we better be a part of that scene!

I see I'm to upload an image to my blog. This is a picture of the NEW FINDS from Ashfall that I saw this summer.

Flickr

I have spent way to much time trying to figure this out. However, we do learn from our challenges.
  • I didn't understand what Flickr was about prior to today
  • I was successful in uploading some pictures, and gave them a title, tab, description
  • I need to spend more time to fully undestand how Flickr could work for my pictures

I also think I am using to many different logins/passwords as I move through the 23 things!

RSS Feeds

I set up my RSS feeds last night. I checked them, and I am getting more stuff than I want. I will have to delete some of the sites I subscribed to.

Catch-Up

I'm really playing catch-up.
  • Was interrupted so many times the first week, I forgot to finish.
  • Left for the NLA/NEMA Conference during Week 2.
  • Finally, as we conclude Week 3, I've found some time to get started, again.
Incidentally, the conference was great. And since my first blog posting, I've even found the spell checker on this blog.

7 1/2 lifelong learning habits

Habit 7 1/2 intrigues me, and will be the hardest for me:
Play. I tend to feel that I need to be productive at all times, and have to make myself allow time to play.

And I so totally agree with Habits 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, & 7!
The easiest will be #3: To view problems as challenges,
and #6 to Use technology to your advantage.
Why: Because I have learned at work to view problems as a way to learn something new, especially when it comes to dealing with technology problems. And technology in so many ways changes our lives for the better.
I wish there was a spell checker in blogger! Maybe there is and I don't know where to find it.
